CHAIR MADRID

In Spain, a unique phenomenon occurred at the end of the 1950s with the emergence of a highly refined modernity at the hands of a movement that sought to break with the historicist statism of the post-war regime. Compared to those who say that Spain was a cultural wasteland during the 40s and 50s, which is absolutely false, even biased. Notable among many others is the work of architects such as Miguel Fisac or Sáenz de Oiza who take the reins of a particular modern adventure sponsored by Franco's interest in projecting a more open image after the Autarchy years. The work of Eugenio D’Ors awakens in my special interest because of the many and very interesting ramifications that it had towards disciplines as diverse as painting and interior design. It was not by chance that he was united by a strong friendship with Biosca, along with the first gallery owner specialized in Contemporary Art in post-war Madrid and a furniture manufacturer with a deep design work that has nothing to envy that of Nordic architects like Alvar Aalto.
